part 3, april 25: How to Speak to Anyone with Truth and Kindness

The path of awakening taught by the Buddha includes a wide range of practices to calm the body and mind, to heal the heart, and to respond to need with wisdom and compassion. Silent meditation is only one form of training. In this series of online, half-day workshops, we will build on the foundation of inner practice to build a holistic approach to transformation and engaged action.

These workshops will be held online via Zoom, and will include meditation instructions, short Dharma talks, as well time for questions. We will take several short breaks, including a half hour break in the middle.

All are welcome: Appropriate for meditators at all levels of experience; no prior experience required.

Part 1:  Finding Courage and Steadiness with Uncertainty
Saturday, April 11 –
Online, sponsored by New York Insight

How do we find the strength to handle difficult emotions and the courage to face intensely challenging situations? In the first part of this series, we will explore ways to calm the mind and body, manage fear and anxiety effectively, and offer loving support to others in distress.

This series is being recorded. Those registering after it begins will have access to the recordings.

Part 2: How to Care without Getting Overwhelmed
Saturday, April 18 –
Online, sponsored by Cambridge Insight Meditation Center

When the heart is open and the mind clear, we are able to respond to challenges and crises with wisdom, love and skill. In part 2 of this series, we’ll explore practices to strengthen the heart and cultivate a wise perspective on relationships and life. Participants will apply their contemplative practice to a real-life situation, developing new ideas and skills to identify one’s resources, limits, and capacity to engage without getting overwhelmed.

Register for the April 18 half-day only via CIMC here, or for the entire series below.

Part 3: How to Speak to Anyone with Truth and Kindness
Saturday, April 25 –
Online, sponsored by Valley Insight Meditation Society and Unitarian Society of Germantown

In the final part of this series, we will explore an integrated approach to bringing mindfulness and care to our communication. How do we bring qualities of integrity, truth, and kindness into our relationships and conversations, staying true to our values while creating conditions for real dialogue? The tools shared will integrate guidelines for Wise Speech offered by the Buddhist tradition, as well as the contemporary discipline of Nonviolent Communication.
